I regrettably had to retire my last Caddy, due to age and wear. It lived a good long life and was well-loved. Been wearing a Caddy for 25 years, so I’ve seen many variations and little changes, some better and some worse but mostly good. This newest model however (2024) just seems like the changes weren’t thought through. My least favorite thing is the “autobloc clip loops” on the leg loops. If I want to clip an autobloc to a leg loop, I’ll clip it to the legloop. But now, instead, there is a weird raised bulky clip point that physically blocks my extra leg loop tails from reaching the stow pockets. Even though the harness is fitted perfectly to me, the belt has wildly long webbing on it, which I’ll probably end up cutting shorter myself. And the new style of haul loop on the back is bulky and unnecessary—I’d much rather the OG low profile haul loop, which also worked well to clip a chalkbag onto in snug low-profile way.
I obviously love the Caddy and have done for a long time, but the only differences I see between this model and my last (circa 2014??) seem ill-conceived and purposeless. As I plan to replace this one at a more appropriate interval, I’m hoping the future changes are more desirable, or even just that it goes back to a past model design.
Positive changes: I do like the custom options for adding an extra belay loop and an extra gear loop.
